Wow! It’s been over a month since my last post; how undisciplined I’ve become. Here is a portrait I completed for a friend using nothing but an 8B pencil. It’s a scientific case study of Galapagos Finches.
Kaytee the African Grey
Kaytee is a lovable little queen that rules her house! Her owner is smitten with her despite her sometimes persnickety disposition, and it’s not hard to see why. Some girls just know they’re beautiful! Kaytee does. I used a red tail feather from an African Grey parrot to paint her portrait. Again, I’m getting texture … Continue reading »
Hunter the African Grey
The lovely duo that owns Amy, the parrot I painted prior to this, also have an African Grey parrot. Once again I got to work in values which was just loads of fun! I thought a headshot would do nicely based off my reference picture, and am pretty pleased with the result. Dimensions: 5 inches … Continue reading »
Amy the Amazon Parrot
A couple graciously submitted to me the creme de la creme of feathers with a request that I paint a portrait of their Amazon, Amy, and another of their African Grey. I haven’t completed the latter yet, but here’s Amy, a marvelous subject! She just looks like she’s totally aware of how beautiful she is. … Continue reading »
Louie, an African Grey on a Blue Parrot Feather
This is an African Grey, named Louie, who is another variety of parrot. I really enjoyed painting him because I was able to work more with values rather then color blending. Bijou – A Lovely Little Parrot Portrait
I think what I’ve enjoyed the most by doing these mini-fid portraits, (a “fid” is a term of endearment for “feathered kid”), is getting to understand how incredibly smart and social these pets can be. The gratitude expressed thus far by the owners has meant a lot to this lil’ lady here, and it gives me confidence … Continue reading »
Redirection
Welcome (back) to my newly updated blog. I’m still tweaking the appearance and layout, so bare with me little ones! It’s also important to mention that I’ve changed not only my blog name to wishful heARTS, but my site URL well. Consistency is the name of the game now. Stay tuned for more action kids; … Continue reading »
Pet Portrait on a Parrot Feather
Ting the Cat and Goo the Parrot. Tings eyes were impossible to replicate. The canvas was just too small. The fur was really difficult too. All in all though, think they came out quite nice. After posting the photos side by side, the parrots coloring is way off. Boo!!
Lovebird on a Parrot Feather
Latest feather; a lovebird on a parrot feather. The glare off the white is a bit regrettable. It doesn’t glow in person. The feather is approx. 3 1/2 inches x 1 inch.
Man’s Best Friend
Think I’m getting the hang of this…
